What you can do with Umami

Umami is an open-source web analytics platform built as a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to Google Analytics. It's aimed at developers, indie hackers, and small teams who want to track pageviews, custom events, and conversion funnels without shipping visitor data to a third party or dealing with cookie-consent banners.

What sets Umami apart is its footprint: a tracking script under 2KB, a single PostgreSQL database, and no ClickHouse cluster to babysit. Choosing Umami self hosted on your own VPS instead of Umami Cloud means unlimited websites and events at a fixed monthly cost, full data ownership for GDPR-sensitive projects, and no per-event billing as traffic grows.

Umami features

A server surrounded by app icons — applications running on a VPS

Umami covers the core of product and web analytics in one lightweight dashboard, without turning into a bloated enterprise suite.

01

Custom events & funnels

Track button clicks, form submissions, or signups, then chain them into conversion funnels.

02

UTM & campaign tracking

See which campaigns, referrers, and channels actually drive traffic.

03

Session replay

Watch anonymized recordings of real user sessions to spot UX friction (available from v3.1 onward).

04

Multiple websites, one dashboard

Manage unlimited domains under a single self-hosted install.

05

Public share links

Expose a read-only dashboard to clients or teammates without giving them login access.

06

Team accounts & roles

Invite collaborators with scoped access to specific sites.

07

REST API

Pull stats programmatically for custom reports or internal tools.

08

Cookieless visitor tracking

Identifies visitors via a salted hash instead of cookies or localStorage.

Getting started

How to deploy Umami

Three steps and the app is running on your server.
Step 1
Choose a server

Choose a plan with enough headroom for PostgreSQL and the Umami app to run comfortably, even at low traffic.

Step 2
Pick the app

Select Umami from the marketplace catalog to deploy Umami in one click, with the database provisioned automatically.

Step 3
Get your credentials

Grab the admin URL and default credentials from your panel to log in and add your first tracked website.

Why us

Why Host Umami on Leneex

Speed, protection and support you can rely on — on every plan, with no hidden limits.
Deployment speed
Umami's stack is just the app and PostgreSQL, so a one-click deploy on Leneex means your tracking script can start collecting data within minutes of buying the server.
Free installation
There's no vendor lock-in cost here beyond your own time — Leneex removes the setup fee too, so the only ongoing cost is the VPS itself, not a per-event bill.
DDoS protection
Umami's collector endpoint receives a request on every single pageview across every site you track, making it a realistic target for traffic floods — DDoS protection keeps analytics collection running even under attack.
Control and support
Root access lets you fine-tune Postgres settings, rename the tracker script to dodge ad blockers, or wire in a reverse proxy — all things a managed Umami Cloud plan won't let you touch.
99.9% uptime with SLA compensation
Since Umami is the single source of truth for your traffic and conversion data, gaps in uptime mean gaps in your analytics history — the uptime SLA protects the continuity of that dataset.
Flexible payment
A fixed VPS bill is easier to forecast than Umami Cloud's per-event pricing once your event volume climbs, and flexible payment options fit both solo developers and companies billing through accounting.
What to choose

Umami: Self-Hosted vs Cloud — Which to Choose

We compare cost, control over your data and limits, so the choice is an informed one.
Umami Cloud
Self-hosted on LeneexRecommended
Resources and limitsHobby: 100K events/mo on 3 sites; Pro ($20/mo): 1M events, 20 sitesDedicated CPU/RAM, event volume capped only by your server
Control and accessNo server access; managed environment onlyFull root access, custom env variables, tracker script renaming
Feature limitsSession replays, white-labeling, and streaming API gated to higher tiersAll features included regardless of traffic
ScalingRequires switching plans or paying per-event overage feesUpgrade your VPS plan instantly as event volume grows
CostStarts free, but scales with events — Pro at $20/mo, Business at $200/mo for 10M eventsFixed monthly VPS price, independent of event count
Who it fitsSolo projects wanting zero maintenance and a quick setup with low trafficTeams tracking high-volume or multiple sites who want predictable costs and data ownership

If you're deploying Umami for one or two low-traffic sites and don't mind vendor-managed infrastructure, Umami Cloud's free Hobby tier is hard to beat. But once event volume climbs past 100K a month or you're running several sites, self-hosted Umami on a VPS becomes cheaper and gives you full control over the underlying PostgreSQL data — no overage fees, no retention limits.

Frequently Asked Questions about Umami on VPS

What people ask most about Umami and our servers.

  • Umami doesn't offer a built-in Cloud-to-self-hosted export tool, so migration typically means re-adding your websites and starting fresh data collection, or querying the Cloud API and importing historical stats into your own PostgreSQL database manually.

  • Your PostgreSQL database and Docker volumes stay untouched during a plan upgrade, so historical event data, dashboards, and website configurations are preserved.

  • A small VPS comfortably handles several low-to-medium traffic websites through one Umami instance, since the app and PostgreSQL database are lightweight compared to ClickHouse-based analytics tools; exact capacity depends on event volume per site.

  • You control updates on your VPS — pulling a new Docker image and restarting the container applies the latest Umami release, and it's worth checking release notes for breaking changes before upgrading a production instance.

What's already configured out of the box

After the one-click deploy, the Umami container and a PostgreSQL database are up and running together, with the database schema created automatically on first start — you don't need to run migrations by hand. and should be confirmed in your control panel before going live.

First login

Open the Umami URL shown in your Leneex panel; the default login is username admin and password umami, unless your panel auto-generates a unique password during install — check the credentials section of your server dashboard first. Whichever applies, change the password immediately from Settings → Profile before adding any tracked websites — the default credentials are publicly documented and a known target for scanners.

Adding your first website

Once logged in, go to Settings → Websites → Add website, enter the domain you want to track, and Umami generates a tracking snippet (a short <script> tag) to paste into your site's <head>. The snippet is under 2KB and loads asynchronously, so it won't slow down page rendering. If your site sits behind an ad blocker-heavy audience, renaming the tracker script via the TRACKER_SCRIPT_NAME environment variable — — can reduce blocked requests.
