Four steps to your EV SSL for website
You'll need the name, legal address, registration number, and the contact details of an authorized employee. Check them against the registry to avoid discrepancies.
Enter the domain, fill out the application form in your account dashboard, and pay for the certificate by Visa, Mastercard, or invoice.
The authority will confirm that the company exists, its address and phone number, and the applicant's authority. If clarifications are needed, a manager will let you know.
Installing an EV SSL certificate works the same as for any other: the certificate, the private key, and the chain. After that, make sure that pages, forms, and the user account area open over HTTPS.

No, modern browsers no longer highlight EV with a green bar. The company name is visible in the certificate details, and the value of EV lies in strict validation of the organization.
Banks, payment services, large online stores, and companies whose regulations or partner contracts spell out requirements for organization validation.
Extended validation usually takes from one to several business days. The timeline depends on the country of registration and how quickly you respond to the authority's requests.
The applicant's right to act on behalf of the company is verified, so an authorized employee or a manager will do. A Leneex manager will tell you which confirmations are needed.
By invoice for legal entities. You can also pay by Visa or Mastercard.
Tell support before you submit the application: discrepancies in the name or address delay validation. A manager will help you bring the data in line with how it appears in the registry.
Yes, reissuance with a new CSR is available in your account dashboard. Revalidating the organization within the validity period of the data is usually not required.
Question 01
Does EV SSL show a green address bar in the browser?
No, modern browsers no longer highlight EV with a green bar. The company name is visible in the certificate details, and the value of EV lies in strict validation of the organization.
An Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificate is the strictest validation level. The certificate authority checks not only the domain and the company's legal status but also its physical registration address, phone number, and the authority of the person submitting the application, and it cross-checks the data against several independent official sources (company registries, government databases, phone confirmations).
The EV SSL Certificate Validation Level
This is the most thorough and formalized procedure of all existing types of SSL validation, governed by a separate CA/Browser Forum standard written specifically for EV. The process of issuing an EV certificate is more complex than for DV and OV.
It includes the following stages:
Confirming the organization's legal existence. The certificate authority checks the company's data against official government registries: name, registration number, registration date, and status (an active company, not a dissolved one).
Confirming the physical address and phone number. At this stage you need to provide documents that confirm the company's actual location, and sometimes a direct phone call is required, to a number found in an independent source rather than the one supplied by the applicant.
Confirming the right to the domain. As with DV validation, the applicant must prove control of the domain name.
Confirming the applicant's authority. The authority checks that the person ordering the certificate is actually authorized to act on behalf of the organization, for example through an official letter or a call to a responsible person at the company.
Because of this scope of validation, an EV certificate for a website is issued within a few days, and sometimes a week, whereas DV takes a few minutes.
There are many misconceptions about EV, so let's look at what it provides and what it doesn't:
Feature | Does EV provide it? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Company name in the certificate details | Yes | Visitors can open the details and check who owns the site |
Verified legal status | Yes | Data is checked against official registries |
Secure HTTPS connection | Yes | Same as with other certificate types |
Green address bar | No | Modern browsers no longer show it |
Stronger encryption | No | Encryption strength is the same for DV, OV, and EV |
Higher search rankings | No | The validation level doesn't affect rankings |
Who Should Buy an EV SSL Certificate
banks, payment systems, and fintech companies, for which legal transparency is part of compliance requirements;
large online stores and marketplaces, when partners or payment organizations require verified identification of the owner;
public companies and organizations with high reputational sensitivity;
government and quasi-government bodies, where EV may be part of internal security regulations;
B2B services that work with large corporate clients, where legal due diligence on a counterparty is standard practice.
For small blogs, personal sites, early-stage startups, and most noncommercial projects, EV is usually overkill: DV or OV will be perfectly sufficient, and the money and time you save are better spent on developing your product.
Choose Your Certificate on the Leneex Website
The current price of an EV SSL certificate is listed on the page. At Leneex, every customer can place an order for a certificate online. This type of certificate doesn't give stronger encryption; it gives formally and thoroughly verified confirmation of the site owner's legal status.
Its main visual advantage, the green highlighting of the company name in the browser's address bar, is a thing of the past, but the legal value of strict validation hasn't gone anywhere and still matters for certain industries and types of business. Weigh the pros and cons before you buy. Do you need precisely this level of trust? Or would a regular OV certificate be enough for your business goals?
